Meet
the PHPF Family
Pam
Kissoondyal
Program Director, Alachua County
Hi All,
My name is Pam
Kissoondyal. My husband and I have two wonderful children
(well three wonderful children if you count our
dog – Boxer). Alec 14
and Jessica 12. Jessi has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum
Disorder.
I moved to
Florida
from
Canada
several years ago and immediately began to look for Parent Support
Meetings. After a few
months, Special Parents for Exceptional Children (SPEC) began. Today
SPEC has evolved into
PHPF
Alachua
County
. Parents (yes, mom and dad) and Grandparents attend the meetings.
My goal is to learn
and teach! I learn something new at every meeting and I am able
to share that information with other parents. Parents are incredible
teachers and a wonderful link to many resources in the area. I
believe that the strength of a parent can determine the outcome of
their child with disabilities. Like our children, some parents are
gifted in this area, and some of us need TLC.
In the past I have
worked as a Parent Partner with the Center
for Autism and Related Disabilities at the
University
of
Florida
in
Gainesville
Florida
.
I.
am a 2005 graduate of the Florida
Developmental Disabilities Council Partners
in Policymaking Program. I received certification as a Behavior
Assistant from Best
Behavior in 2007. I am also a member of the Family
Network on Disabilities (FND) and the Autism
Society of America (ASA). Now, I am a Family Specialist at
the
Florida
Outreach Project at the
University
of
Florida
in
Gainesville
Florida
.
I feel honored to be
part of the PHPF family!
