"For
Sibs Only"

A Support Group
With A Twist
PHPF is as a support group with a twist.
It not only provides a place for Marion County parents of children
with disabilities to come together with their peers to share their
thoughts, feelings, experiences and ideas, but it offers a unique
program--"For Sibs Only"--a place for their "typical"
children to do the same thing.
You see, in many cases
"sibs" may have to relinquish the attention of their parents
to a brother or sister with a disability. This creates feelings
of being "second best" or "not as important"
and can lead to
confusion
sadness
anger.
Other issues of concern can be anything from
bringing friends home, family outings, baby-sitting or even plans
for the future. "For Sibs Only" provides a recreational
and social environment for these children to discuss these problems
and express their feelings with children just like them who can
understand and relate.
"For Sibs Only"
counselors are trained to approach these issues and help our children
put their lives back into perspective. Families are then bought
together for a "panel discussion" that will help them
approach the concerns head on. Together they then work towards
establishing methods to make the necessary adjustments that will
bring about family harmony.
"For Sibs Only"
plans holiday parties and special outings for the sibs only, for
sibs and their parents, and even for the entire family.
